Members,
We would like to wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving
PLANTING IS THE NAME OF THE GAME NOW!
November 15 is the FALL planting deadline. This is the final date for full planting but you should be starting to plant NOW. If you wait until the last day, you will be behind the curve for an adequate Fall planting growth period.
Be sure to add amendments as plants need food to grow. Recommendations from garden soil testing https://lbcg.org/amending-your-garden/ .
NOV 15th is also the deadline for removing TOMATOES , PEPPERS & EGGPLANTS: All tomatoes, peppers and eggplants must be completely removed from November 15th through March 1st. We give the garden a rest from these plants to reduce disease. The Board and row Monitors will be walking the entire garden for compliance.
November 2 – WORK PARTY: Remember that 2 of the 4 required hours must be completed by the end of December. If the 2 hours are not completed by Dec 31st, you will automatically be given an extra 2 hours for required community service for a total of 6 hours. Hope to see you at 7:15AM on November 2nd. Even if you have done your 4 hours, consider coming to help because we are behind. Please rsvp to this email if you plan to attend. It helps us to make the assignments and how much work we can expect to get done.
Remember: There’s no working in your plot during the work party from 7:30-9:30 on the first Saturday of every month.
Orchard Work Parties: The Orchard work parties are usually every Tuesday from 3:00 – 5:00PM and are by appointment only by signing up at the Gazebo. Also, individual appointments are available by contacting Alan Coles at: lbcg.orchard@gmail.com. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Time Change: Remember the time change. The hours at the garden are from dawn to dusk. Please don’t stay after dark.
Garden Reviews: The plots are reviewed by the Row Monitors the first week of the month. Please do the reminders within the days given. Corrections notices will be sent if reminders are not corrected.
Thanksgiving Drive: Beginning next week, we are accepting donations for our yearly Thanksgiving drive. Every year we take donations to the Long Beach Mission. The last day to donate is Tuesday, November 26th at noon. They could use potatoes, yams, corn, green beans, stuffing, canned goods, canned ham, etc. Every donation is important and VERY much appreciated. Please put donations in the food bank cages.
Leaving the Garden? Please notify Nancy Bernstein, Membership Chair, at (562) 477-1598 or reply to this email if you plan to end your garden membership. Please note that in order to leave in good standing and to be kind to your fellow gardeners, it is required that you clear out your plot and return the parking tag and gate opener to the mailbox in front of the small barn. Please do not abandon the plot and cause weed problems for your neighbors and a mess for members to have to clean.
Entering other plots: Please remember you SHALL NOT enter anyone else’s plot. Plants and equipment have been reported as missing. If theft is determined, membership will be immediately terminated.
Overgrowth: Please remember nothing can grow into the pathways and nothing can grow on or through your fence. Please don’t put trellises along border boards
Information Board: Please watch for information at the gazebo and front entrance bulletin board for updates.
Food Bank: We are looking for a volunteer to deliver vegetables to the Long Beach Mission on Sundays. Please rsvp to this email if you could help.
Board Meeting: The next Board meeting will be held on December 2, 2024 by Zoom from 6:30 – 7:30PM. Garden members who are interested should contact the President at lbcga.president@gmail.com to receive an invitation to the meeting.
Happy Gardening!
