Hello Members,

It is time for Spring plot preparation.  See our website for suggested soil preparation at lbcg.org.

April Work Party:  The April 2nd Work Party from 7:30 – 9:30 am is the LAST WORK PARTY of the garden year.  If you need hours to complete your community service requirement, this is the last time to attend. The Annual Membership meeting will be held after the work party — see item below

We have many infrastructure activities that need to be done in the Spring. If you plan to attend, please RSVP by replying to this email — it just helps us to plan the assignments.
If you cannot attend this work party, you should either sign up at the Gazebo to work in the Orchard or contact Nancy Bernstein at 562-477-1598 for a special assignment.

2022/23 Membership Renewals:  You can find the instructions and contract under MEMBERSHIP at  https://lbcg.org/membership-renewals/ . The renewal deadline is April 30, 2022.  Any renewal received after April 30th will be considered late and a monetary penalty will be applied in order to retain membership. If you are leaving the garden at the end of the garden calendar year (April 30th), your plot must be fully cleaned out and in good shape, with car tags and gate openers returned. Please let us know in advance if you plan to leave as we are getting many new applicants. Try to send your renewal in as soon as possible and you are welcome to put your renewal in the mailbox at the garden.

Board Elections:  Fifteen qualified applications were received for 15 positions therefore, according to the LBCG Bylaws, a vote is not necessary.  The new roster of Officers and Directors will be announced at the Annual Membership meeting to be held immediately after the April 2 Work Party.

May 1 Planting Deadline:  Just a reminder that all plots are required to be fully planted by May 1st. It is the time of the year to clear out the old and bring in the new. NOW is the time to get your plot in shape, add amendments in preparation for the Spring/Summer season.  Due to the cold, it is recommended that you wait until at least mid-March to plant and then possibly cover and protect plants.  Further, all broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage and cauliflower must be removed by May 1 as well.

Annual General Membership Meeting:  A General Membership Meeting will be held April 2nd at the Gazebo immediately following the work party.  The purpose of this meeting is to approve the Budget for 2022/23, announce the new Board of Directors and provide other updates to the membership.

Lost & Found:  A gate opener was found in the garden.  If you think it is yours, contact Carol Meyer and describe where you lost it.

Trash Update:  Our vendor, EDCO, has provided an update on Organic Recycling (green bins).  Organics, which includes food waste, green waste, landscape and pruning waste, non-hazardous wood waste, and food-soiled paper waste, can be placed separately or commingled in the green organics container.  Be aware that nothing can be attached to the wood (all nails and other materials need to be removed) to place in the green bins.

Happy Gardening,

Kathy Jarvis, President and Carol Meyer, 1st VP
