Hello Members,

We are fully into the Fall/Winter season and beginning to reap the benefits of our work.  From broccoli to cauliflower and lettuce to peas, the crops are bountiful this year and we seem to have less critter damage than last year.  Here are a couple of reminders and issues:

THEFT FROM FOOD BANK AND ORCHARD TABLE
Unfortunately, we have had unwanted visitors in the garden again.  Our green shed was broken into with rototillers and other items stolen.  We are following up with the City that is supposed to put up a light fixture high on the electric pole in that corner and our City Councilperson Stacy Mungo is trying to get Edison to act.  Just be aware and report any suspicious activity or theft from your plot.

OVERGROWN ROSEMARY, LAVENDER & OTHER PERENNIAL PLANTS
We recently have had to get strong men to remove extremely overgrown rosemary and lavender plants in several plots.  These plants are supposed to be cut down to a height and width of no more than 3 feet.  If the trunk of your plant is larger than 2 inches in diameter and woody, remove the plant and start with a new one.

FOOD BANK DONATIONS
As we begin reaping veggies from our winter gardens, don’t forget to donate some to the food bank as there is great need at the Long Beach Mission and other charities we support.

WORK PARTY – JANUARY WORK PARTY IS CANCELLED DUE TO THE HOLIDAY

See you on February 5 as we will have a lot to do!

ROW MONITORS

We want to thank those members who are willing to walk the garden monthly and let others know when issues need to be resolved.  Remember that they are the eyes and ears of the Board and they help all of us tremendously — their notes are friendly reminders.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE BOARD OF THE LB COMMUNITY GARDEN – let’s make 2022 bountiful for all!
