LBCGA Members:

To elect the Board of Directors for the upcoming year, a slate of candidates will be presented by mail-in ballot and the results will be communicated to the General Membership at the General Meeting on April 2, 2022.

The Nominating Committee, made up of several Board and non-Board members of the LBCGA and chaired by Director Nina Burgeno, is ready to receive nominations for the five (5) Officer positions and ten (10) Director positions, which make up the Board of Directors.

Examples of responsibilities and duties of the Board members include but are not limited to:

Responsibilities

  1.   Assuming responsibility for the Association.
  2.   Overseeing all activities and the fiscal integrity of the Association.
  3. Establishing and adhering to policies that will ensure that LBCGA fulfills its legal and professional obligations.
  4.   Setting the tone for dynamic and supportive leadership.

Duties

  1.   Ensure that the needs of the membership are met.
  2.   Approve and evaluate programs and activities.
  3.   Plan the LBCGA’s future direction.
  4.   Establish policies to guide the operations of the Association.
  5.   Establish financial objectives and monitor progress.
  6.   Attend at least two Saturday Work Parties/garden year

This is a working Board.  Board members are expected to attend Board and membership meetings as well as take special assignments, based on their talents and experience, and as appointed by the President.  They are also expected to attend as many  Work Parties as possible.

According to the LBCGA Bylaws, each nominee must be a member in good standing with the Association.  A member in good standing is a member who has:

  1. Been a member for at least 1 year or was a previous member in good standing
  2. Paid current dues
  3. Performed at least 4 hours of community service
  4. Had no more than one Weed or Correction Notice in the calendar year.
  5. Officers and Directors shall be elected to serve terms of one year or until their successors take office.

If you are interested in being nominated for a position on the Board of Directors, please complete the LBCGA 2022/2023 NOMINATION FORM and mail it to the LBCGA, P.O. Box 15944, Long Beach, CA  90815 or place in the garden mailbox in front of the small barn in the orchard.  Forms must be postmarked or received in the garden mailbox no later than February 22, 2022.

If there is an equal or lesser number of nominations than positions, the slate will be approved by the Board without membership voting.  If there are more nominations than positions, the Nominating Committee will prepare a ballot of qualified nominees which will be sent to each plot-holder in early March.  Each plot would receive one ballot and one vote per plot.  If you have questions regarding this nomination process, do not hesitate to contact the Nomination Chair, Nina Burgeno at Nina@lbcg.org.
